engaging in parties

The Tatler, No. 193, ridiculing the devices of party intrigue in the name of the stage prompter, Downes, was considered as written against the schemes of Harley. The paper was written by Anthony Henley, and, strangely enough, was laid to the account of Swift, and imputed to him by the author of the Political State (Boyer) as a proof of tergiversation.
