The price explosion in household refrigerators in the year 2007 is not revealed by the asking price, but by the warranty. In 1994 Hoover guaranteed their refrigerators for 10 years, now (2007) the same refrigerator comes with a 2 year warranty. Once a refrigerator would be expected to last over a decade, now it is two years, which is in effect a fivefold increase in the price of a refrigerator; a result of government legislation inspired by public hysteria about holes in the Ozone layer.
