Sir Matthew Dudley
Note by Henry Craik to Letters 7 from Journal To Stella

Now one of the Commissioners of the Customs. He was a Whig, and a close friend of Godolphin, and was consequently supposed to be in danger of losing his place, as soon as the Tory ministers were strong enough to clear out all their adversaries from office. Swift more than once interceded on his behalf, but he had to go in January, 1712.
