These words have their proper uses. "The United Nations Organisation is located at Lake Success." "I do not know the location of my unit." Those are proper uses. But the words are often used where simpler words would do as well or better —find for the verb and place or position for the noun.
By an unfortunate oversight the file was mislaid, and it was not until the receipt of your letter that a thorough search was made and the file located.
Located does not mitigate the offence any more than a blunt found would have done.
