Clement V immediately promoted ten cardinals, nine French and one English (Vita 4ta p. 63, et Baluz. p. 625, etc). In 1331, the pope refused two candidates recommended by the king of France,
quod xx. Cardinales, de quibus xvii. de regno Fraciae originem traxisse noscuntur in
