Extracts from A Tour Through The Whole Island Of Britain (Three Volumes, 1724-1726). This long and entertaining book is partly the the result of Defoe's personal observation of England, where he had travelled extensively during his many government missions, and partly the result of careful cribbing from older guide books. Defoe's enthusiasm embraces everything of interest, especially the various local industries, the many people he met, the quality of the inns at which he stayed, the architecture and scenery he saw.
