Charles Kingsley (1819-1875)
From 1800-1829 Literary Anecdotes

OF the late Master of Trinity — Dr. Thompson — it was said:

'He casteth forth his ice like morsels. Who is able to abide his frost? . . . '

He was nothing if not critical. At Seeley's inaugural lecture as Professor of History Dr Thompson's only remark was —

'Well, well. I did not think we could so soon have had occasion to regret poor Kingsley.'

From Russell, Collections, p. 172.
