From Anecdotes about Eighteen Century Authors

These recollections of the aged President of Magdalen College, Oxford, were recorded by John William Burgon, who matriculated at Worcester College at the age of twenty-eight, became Vicar of St. Mary's, Oxford, in 1863, and Dean of Chichester in 1876. He managed to get the interview because he 'had been charged with a book for him, and having obtained his permission to bring it in person, presented [himself] at his gate'.
