Teachers are being forced to wear body armour and pay for vaccinations after being bitten by violent pupils, a union conference has been told.
NASUWT ( England's National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers) officials told the conference in Bournemouth last week that many teachers bought arm guards, usually worn by police dog handlers, for protection.
It also claimed that teachers were spending up to £80 a time on hepatitis B and tetanus jabs to offset infections following attacks in special schools.
